My sourdough starter died after 4 years and I'm honestly relieved

Last month my starter finally gave up, the one I'd kept alive since 2021 in my Philly apartment. I fed it every single week, watched it bubble, babied it through two moves. Then one morning it just smelled like vinegar and never rose again. I threw it out and bought a packet of instant yeast at the corner store. Honestly, my bread tastes better now and I get my Sunday mornings back. Has anyone else quit their starter and felt like a weight lifted?

Ditched my kombucha SCOBY after three years of force-feeding it sugar tea and felt the same rush of freedom. That thing survived a cross-country move in a carry-on, then one day it just turned to slime and I nearly cheered. Now I just buy a bottle at the store when I want a fizzy drink, and honestly, my kitchen counter thanks me every morning.
