Spent $40 on a fancy sourdough starter kit and killed it in 3 days cause I forgot to feed it
Bought this whole kit with the jar and thermometer and everything from a shop in Portland and then got busy with work and the thing just went moldy, anyone else waste cash on supplies they never ended up using?

...and honestly the real irony here is that sourdough starter is literally free to make. Like you just need flour and water and a jar you already have. So you basically paid $40 for the privilege of forgetting something that costs zero dollars to replace. But I get it because I bought a fancy banneton basket online and then realized I could have just used a bowl with a towel and saved thirty bucks. At least next time you know there's nothing magical about those kits, just flour and patience and remembering to actually feed the thing before it turns into a science experiment.
