Spent $60 on a thesaurus to win a ban appeal, and it backfired
Back in April my city's parks department banned the word "gathering" from all event permits, so you had to call everything a "get-together" instead. I paid $60 for an old Roget's at a used bookstore in Boise to build my case that the rule was silly, then the clerk read my appeal and flagged it for using "convocation" and "assemblage," which she said were just fancy ways to break the same rule. So the thesaurus got me a second rejection letter. Did I just make their point for them, or is there a word that slips past these lists?
Bought a thesaurus to fight a word ban and then handed them two more words to ban. That is like bringing a knife to a gun fight, except the knife was also a gun that shot you. You basically paid $60 to write their next rule for them. Next time just call it a "hangout" and see if they ban that too.
