Had the worst Monday ever with our ATM network going down

Last Tuesday our entire ATM network went down for 3 hours during morning rush because a contractor cut a fiber line downtown. We had to manually refund over $1,200 in fees to customers who got double charged during the outage. Has anyone else dealt with a sudden network crash that turned into a PR nightmare?

yo did your friend ever find out how many people actually complained on social media vs just calling in? i had a buddy at another bank who said the twitter meltdown was way worse than the actual system crash lol

Had the same thing happen at my credit union a few years back. Except it was a squirrel chewing through a power line instead of a contractor. Took out all the drive-through ATMs for a solid 4 hours on a Friday afternoon. We ended up refunding like 800 bucks in overdraft fees from people trying to pull cash and getting hit twice. PR team was useless. They just kept tweeting "we are aware of the issue" while people were screaming at the branch managers in person.
