Got told my forum post was 'too American centered' and it actually made me rethink everything

Last week I posted a rant about how a certain video platform blocked a documentary I wanted to watch, and someone replied saying I was acting like the whole world revolves around US internet laws. I honestly didn't even realize I was doing that. They pointed out that in places like India and Brazil, whole streaming libraries get removed over licensing, not just censorship. So I started looking up what gets banned in other countries and why, and it's way different than I thought. Like in Turkey, they block a ton of educational sites over vague 'national security' rules, which is wild to me. Now I'm trying to frame my complaints with a wider view instead of just my own bubble. Has anyone else had a comment like that change how you post?

Yeah that happened to me a couple years back and now I literally check where someone's posting from before I reply about anything location specific. Its a good habit to get into, just adds a quick "depending on your country" at the end of your hot takes.

Ugh yes, this is so real. I always like, forget and then someone gives me a weird look for assuming the same gas prices or weather. It's wild how a tiny "depending on your country" can save you from looking like a total idiot online.
