Saw a bookshop in Tokyo hiding its foreign section behind a curtain
Was in Shinjuku last month for work and wandered into this big chain bookstore. Noticed the English books had this whole section covered by a heavy curtain with a small sign in Japanese. Looked weird so I peeked behind it. Turns out they keep translated titles about certain political topics back there. Nothing illegal, just kept out of sight. The clerk told me they do it to avoid complaints from local groups. Felt like a library with a secret room. I get cultural differences but hiding whole categories is a slippery slope. Anyone else seen shops in other countries do this kind of quiet censorship?

Wow, saw the same thing in Bangkok, they kept LGBTQ books in a back room.
