Visited Quebec last month and noticed the English signs feel like a rebellious act.

Every storefront in Montreal's old town has this tiny English text hidden under the big French version, and I heard from a shopkeeper that they could get fined $1,500 for not making French twice as large, has anyone else seen this kind of language law enforcement up close?
