Checked out a banned comic from our library, got a surprise

Our small town library in Ohio keeps a locked shelf for challenged books. I asked to see the comic 'Maus' last Tuesday. The librarian warned me it was graphic. But I found the real reason it got banned here was the language and violence, not the Holocaust stuff. It made me wonder how many other books get judged on page one instead of the whole story. Has anyone else requested a banned book and found the actual reason was different than the rumor?

My library's got a similar setup, and I grabbed 'American Splendor' once thinking it was just crude humor, but the real issue was a deeply honest look at working class life that made some folks uncomfortable. The clerk warned me about bad language too, yet the actual banned content was way more about the gritty reality of the subject matter than any single word. It's a real reminder that the blurb on the cover never tells you the whole story, so you gotta read the dang thing yourself before judging.
