Found a copy of 'The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian' in a Little Free Library in my Ohio town last month.
It had a note inside from a parent saying it was 'too mature' for the school list and they were getting rid of it. I read it and it just felt so REAL, you know? The book's been challenged a lot for language and themes, but it's a story about a kid trying to find his place. Has anyone else found a banned book in a really normal spot like that?

Ugh, that's so frustrating. Parents policing books like that just makes kids miss out on real stories. Glad you found it anyway.

Totally, it just makes the whole thing seem more interesting than it is. My mom tried to hide my sister's copy of that book about the rabbits, you know the one. She found it taped under a desk drawer. The harder they try to block it, the more we just went looking for it. It never stopped us, just made it a mission.

My kid's school library pulled that one last year. Found a copy at a garage sale for fifty cents.
