Found my old copy of '1984' from high school last night
Had a required reading list in 2003. That book was on it. Now kids in some districts can't even touch it. What changed in just 20 years to make a classic a bad thing?

Yeah I remember reading it in 2004 and we had whole class discussions about the surveillance stuff and thought police, kind of wild to see it being banned now. I actually pulled my old copy out to reread last month and my younger cousin saw it and said their teacher told them it was "too controversial" for their school library. Like how does a book that's been around for decades suddenly become the problem? Makes you wonder what exactly they're scared of kids finding out about.

The weird part is this wasn't even banned in the 80s when everyone was freaking out about "dangerous" books. That says more about what's happening now than the book itself.
