Hot take: I bought a copy of 'The Bluest Eye' at a used bookstore in Denver and the cashier just shook his head.
He said they get asked to pull it from the shelves every year, which made me look up the specific complaints from my own school district. Anyone know why this book gets challenged so much in suburban areas?

Guess they think suburban kids have never seen a sad thing before.

Reminds me of a high school field trip to a "hard life" museum. They showed us black and white photos of people looking sad and told us it was important. We just wanted to get back on the bus for the snacks. It felt like a box being checked, not a real lesson. The whole thing missed the point by a mile.
