Unpopular opinion: I stopped using wheat paste for book cloth after a conservator set me straight

She told me, 'You're not making papier-mache, you're binding a book,' and showed me how wheat paste causes long-term warping. Has anyone else had to unlearn a go-to method after getting real feedback?

Just realized how much caulk I wasted until I tried the tape trick

I was sealing my baseboards in the kitchen last week and kept making a mess with the caulk. Smearing it everywhere, wiping it off, taking forever. I saw a tip online to put painter's tape on both sides of the seam before you caulk. Tried it on a 10 foot run of trim and it came out perfect, no cleanup. Has anyone else found a simple trick like that that saved you a ton of time?

PSA: That one rainy Tuesday almost cost me a roof fire

Last Tuesday I had a job in Columbus where the homeowner hadn't cleaned their chimney in 6 years. I pulled out nearly a full 5-gallon bucket of creosote, it was thick and shiny like tar. The worst part was the bird nest wedged right above the damper, probably blocking half the flue. If they had lit a fire that night, I'm pretty sure the whole thing would have caught. How often do you guys see nests that bad in your area?
