Just found out a book I read in high school was banned in a district in Texas
I saw a list from the Texas ACLU last week that included 'The Things They Carried' for 'profanity'. I always thought it was just a standard war story. Has anyone else been surprised by a book they thought was normal showing up on a ban list?

My old high school had a copy of 'Slaughterhouse-Five' with half the pages glued together. The librarian just shrugged and said to use the public library copy if we wanted the full thing. Sometimes you just have to work around the system.

Just grab a craft knife from the art room, that glue won't stand a chance.

That bit about the glued pages is wild, but it's not just books. I see this pattern everywhere now, like with music at the gym. They'll play a classic rock song but it's a weirdly edited version where whole verses are missing, just silence. Or a movie on a streaming service that's been cut up and no one mentions it. It's this quiet, constant editing of normal stuff until you forget what the original even was.
