One mod's note made me rewrite my entire appeal message
Got banned from a local news comments section for calling a story 'clickbait', then the mod wrote back saying my tone was 'dismissive, not critical'. I reworded the same point with sources from the city's own budget report and got unbanned in 2 days, has anyone else found that citing local data changes the outcome?

That sounds so frustrating, getting banned just for a word choice when your point was totally fair. Mods really do seem to respond better when you hand them cold hard facts instead of opinions. Citing the city's own budget report was a smart move because now it's not about your tone at all, it's about the numbers. Bet that mod felt a little silly after reading actual data backing you up. It's kind of wild that we have to play this game of dressing up a simple complaint in sources just to be heard. Glad you got unbanned though, and in only 2 days, that's a win.
