Tried posting a simple joke about pineapple on pizza, got banned from a food forum within 10 minutes
I wrote something like 'put pineapple on pizza and watch the Italians riot' in a thread about toppings, and an hour later my account was gone. The mod told me I was 'promoting cultural insensitivity' and that was it. Anyone else get zapped for stuff that was just supposed to be funny?

Nah you gotta be more careful with the cultural stuff even if it's a joke. Those mods are just following the rules they set up, probably had a bunch of reports from people who actually got offended. Pineapple on pizza is a meme but saying "watch the Italians riot" plays into stereotypes that some folks take seriously. Food forums especially have gotten super strict since all those drama blowups last year. You could have framed it differently like "my Italian friend disowned me for this" or something more self deprecating. The mods have a hard job sorting actual hate from jokes so they just nuke anything borderline.

Doesn't it feel like this sort of thing is cropping up everywhere now, not just online? I was at a hardware store last week and overheard a guy telling a harmless joke about a certain brand of power tools not being tough, and the clerk got all stiff and said it was "promoting brand elitism." It's like we've forgotten how to take a light jab without turning it into a whole thing. People are so scared of stepping on some invisible landmine that even simple humor gets treated like a personal attack. I get that words can hurt, but when a joke about a fruit and a flatbread gets you banned, it starts to feel like the pendulum has swung way too far in the wrong direction. We used to laugh stuff off, now we just report it.
