Watched a guest speaker get shut down at community college in Tucson last spring
I used to think campus free speech rules meant anyone could talk, but last April a local historian got cut off mid sentence for mentioning a controversial date about a mining strike. The moderator literally pulled the mic after 4 minutes and said we were running out of time, but the schedule showed 20 more minutes. Has anyone else seen a speaker get silenced for historical facts like that?

Honestly I used to think campus free speech stuff was just whining from people who couldn't handle being challenged. But seeing that moderator literally grab the mic after 4 minutes is pretty damning. Tbh if the schedule showed 20 minutes left that's not a timing issue, that's someone deciding that specific topic wasn't allowed. Ngl stuff like that makes me wonder how many other "time constraints" are really just censorship in disguise.

Ask the organizer for the full video recording and the event rules from before it started. A schedule showing 20 minutes left doesn't lie, but watch the whole thing to see if they gave everyone else equal time or if it's the same old pattern. What other speakers got cut short that day, and how many of those topics were on someone's "approved" list?
