TIL I've been over-sharpening my clippers for 6 years

I was watching a barber on YouTube from Chicago last week and he tested blade tension with a dollar bill. Turns out I've been cranking them way too tight and dulling the blades faster. Has anyone else found a simple trick that changed how they set up their clippers?

Oh man the dollar bill test is a game changer for real. I actually learned that from a guy in Atlanta who cuts hair on Instagram and he uses a playing card instead of cash lmao. I tried it with a dollar bill and it worked but then I switched to a card and honestly it feels more consistent. The biggest thing that changed my setup was realizing I don't need to clean the clippers with that expensive spray every time. A little bit of alcohol on a cloth and a drop of oil on the blade is all you need. I used to strip the oil off and then wonder why they sounded like a lawnmower after a week. Now I just wipe them down and oil them every few cuts and they last way longer.
