Got a 30 day ban from the local hiking group for posting a trail closure map
The county parks department website had a PDF showing a washed out bridge on the Maple Ridge loop. I shared it in the group's Facebook page so people wouldn't waste gas driving out there. The admin said it was 'unverified info' and banned me for a month. Anyone else get in trouble for trying to share official safety updates?

Honestly that seems like a weird overreaction from the admin. Maybe they just get a lot of junk posts and yours got caught up in it. Could be they want all updates to come from them directly, idk. A whole month ban for a county PDF is pretty harsh though, feels like a warning would have been enough.

Yeah the "caught up in it" thing is spot on... I've seen mods set up auto filters for any link that isn't from a few big news sites. Your best bet is to message them directly, admit it was a mistake, and ask if they can shorten the ban. Works about half the time.

That exact thing happened to me last year with a park service alert. Messaging the mod directly and just saying "hey, my bad, I should have checked the rules first" got the ban lifted in a day. Sometimes they just want to feel like you respect their process, even if it's a dumb rule. A little apology goes a long way, even when you weren't really wrong.
