Finally got my forge weld to stick on the first try

Used to just crank the blower and hope, but after watching a demo at the county fair, I started prepping the steel with a wire brush while it's still hot. Anyone else have a small trick that made a big difference?

I always thought flux was a waste of time, but it totally changed my game too!

My uncle used to swear by a vinegar soak for his old tools before any hot work. Said it ate off the rust better than anything.
