Question about quenching oil. I used to just use old motor oil but after a blade cracked last winter I switched to a commercial fast oil. Anyone know a good brand that works in cold shops?

Lol, old motor oil in winter sounds like a recipe for instant blade popsicles. Can't go wrong with parks 50 if you hate cracked steel.

Remember my buddy who tried to quench in used 10w30 last January? He ended up with a knife that looked like a spiderweb. Parks 50 is way safer for that cold weather stuff.

So he used actual used oil, not fresh? That's a new level of risky. What was he even making that he thought that was a good idea?
