Swapped my coal forge for a propane one after a rough weekend

I've been running a coal forge out of my backyard shed in Salem for about 3 years now. Last Saturday I had to stop 4 times because of wind knocking my fire around, so I finally caved and bought a Mr. Volcano propane forge for $140. First heat on it was so steady I almost cried, and I got a railroad spike knife done in under 2 hours. Anyone else make the switch and find it worth it?

The real win nobody talks about is the noise level. Coal forges have that constant blower hum and crackling that gets old fast. My propane setup is dead quiet except for the gas hiss. Makes it way easier to hang out and drink a beer while I work.

...and honestly the quiet is the biggest quality of life upgrade I didn't see coming. I put an old paving stone under my propane tank to keep it stable and that killed the last bit of vibration noise. Now I can hear my music or podcast without cranking it, plus customers actually talk to me instead of shouting.
