Vent: Dropped $180 on a fancy anvil stand kit and it was a total waste

Hold on a sec, I gotta disagree with paulhernandez on that pallet thing. Pallet wood is usually pretty soft and can split or warp under the weight of a heavy anvil over time. Scrap steel is fine for the base, but you really want something solid like a hardwood stump or a purpose built steel stand to keep the anvil from rocking or bouncing. I mean, $180 is a lot to drop on something that doesn't work, but a pallet frame is probably gonna flex too much to stay stable for real forging work.

Honestly, "purpose built steel stand" sounds like something I'd see in a fancy catalog while I'm over here using a cinder block and a prayer. Tbh, I tried the pallet thing once and my anvil ended up doing a little dance every time I swung a hammer. It wasn't forging, it was a performance. Now my "stand" is just a stack of scrap steel plates welded together, and it still wobbles if I hit it funny. Ngl, I'm the guy who spends $180 on a stand just to have it look nicer than my actual anvil.
