Heard a guy at my FLGS say gateway games are 'for kids' and it ticked me off

Saturday afternoon at Dragon's Lair in Columbus, dude was lecturing his friend about how Catan is baby stuff and real gamers only play 4 hour war games. I've been playing for 12 years now and still break out Ticket to Ride with my group. That gatekeeping attitude is why it's hard to bring new people in. My wife won't even step foot in that store anymore after overhearing stuff like that. Anyone else have a local shop where the regulars make beginners feel dumb?

Ticket to Ride still gets my group going every other week, so calling it baby stuff misses the point entirely.
