Old timers used soapstone, I went digital and kinda regret it
My first journeyman swore by soapstone for layout marks, but I ran out and grabbed a digital scribe from Grainger 4 years back. It died mid-cut on a 3/8 plate last Tuesday and I spent an hour trying to find the charge cord. Anyone else ditch the old ways and go back?

Yeah I went through the exact same thing with a digital scribe, kept losing the charger and it would die right when I needed it most. I finally caved and bought a good old-fashioned mechanical scriber with a carbide tip, haven't looked back since. No batteries, no fuss, just a sharp point that always works.

Get a mechanical scribe with a carbide tip. Lost my digital one twice in one week, battery died on a job site, and I just snapped. Now I have a pocket full of scribes and zero regrets. No charging, no pairing, just scratch scratch scratch. Feels like cheating.
