Showerthought: spent 6 hours chasing a leak on a 40 foot stack at the plant in Gary, turned out to be a pinhole in a weld I passed 3 years ago
Still bugs me because the dye test showed nothing and I only found it with a mirror and a flashlight at 2am. Anyone else ever get humbled by one of your own old welds?

Read somewhere that old welds can fail from hydrogen cracking even years later, especially if the metal was damp when you laid it down. Sounds like that pinhole was hiding in plain sight the whole time. Wild that a mirror and flashlight at 2am beat the dye test.
