A retired English teacher in my book club said something that shifted my view on plot holes

We were discussing a popular thriller last month when Margaret, who taught for 35 years, mentioned that plot holes are just opportunities for the reader to engage. She said 'perfect stories are dead stories' and that made me stop and think about why I get so caught up in finding errors. Has anyone else had a perspective shift from a veteran reader in their group?

Perfect stories are dead stories" - doesn't that let bad writing off the hook though?

Margaret sounds smart, wish she'd been around when I tried reading Ulysses back in '07.
