Just realized our book club changed after we read 'The Road' last winter

Before that Cormac McCarthy book, we used to argue about character development and writing style. Now every single discussion turns into a debate about whether the ending was hopeful or hopeless. I'm the only one who thinks the boy finding that family was clearly meant as hope, and it's been 8 months since we finished it. Has anyone else had one book completely shift how your whole group talks about everything?

Totally same thing happened with my group after "Never Let Me Go." Hope debate ruined everything.

...and here I thought I was the only one who couldn't get past that ending... I actually tried to argue the hopeful side at my group's last meeting and just ended up confusing myself more than anyone else. Guess I'm not as good at this as I thought.
