Vent: our October pick caused a 3 hour argument over soup
Last Tuesday at the Maple Street library, our club of 12 split hard on whether “The Soup Year” counts as fiction or a memoir. One member quoted page 87 to prove the author invented a whole town, and another pulled out a receipt from her trip to Portland where she met the author. We burned 3 hours and didn't even vote on the next book. Has anyone else had a pick that turned into a total food fight like that?
Man, I totally get this. I used to roll my eyes when people got hung up on what shelf a book belongs on, like who cares right? But then our club picked this one book that was half made up and half real and we spent the whole night yelling about it too. Now I kinda think that fight is the best part, because it means the book actually got under everyone's skin. Soup Year sounds like it did its job lol.
