Why does everyone love the audiobook version now?

I listened to the same book on audio after reading the print copy and I don't get the hype. The narrator's pauses in chapter 14 changed the whole mood of a scene, and not in a good way, but my whole club swears it's the only way. Has anyone else felt the narration actually hurts the story you pictured on your own?

Totally feel you on this. I had a similar thing happen with a mystery novel where the narrator gave the villain this super dramatic, growly voice and it just felt ridiculous after I'd pictured them as this quiet, sneaky type. It's like the audio version paints over your own mental movie with someone else's, and sometimes the colors just clash. My book club's split on it too, but I've learned to just say I'm a visual reader and let them enjoy their thing. The pause thing in chapter 14 would bug me too, pacing is such a personal thing.
