My $80 corner rounder slipped mid-cut and chewed up a leather journal cover
Was finishing a custom journal for a client in Austin last week and the blade jumped the guide, gouging a 1 inch gash right across the front board. I had to scrap the whole cover and start over with a fresh piece of veg tan, which put me 3 hours behind. Has anyone found a way to clamp these things down so they stop wandering on thick stock?
A gash like that usually means the clamp pressure is off, not the blade. Those corner rounders wander when the stock shifts even a hair, so try a strip of double sided tape under the leather and clamp the whole thing to your bench. A corner rounder is the wrong tool for thick veg tan anyway, a head knife or a chisel gives you way more control.
