Hot take: your rare monstera is not special if it lives in a $300 tent
I was at the Houston plant swap on Saturday and some guy bragged his albo cutting needs a humidity dome running at 80% or it throws a fit, then admitted the thing hasn't pushed a new leaf since March. Half that swap table was people buying gear for plants that would do fine on a normal windowsill. Are we growing plants or growing setups at this point?
Feeling this so hard after watching a guy at my local nursery drop almost a hundred bucks on a whole fogger and cabinet setup for a plain golden pothos. It made me sad honestly because the plant was perfectly happy sitting on his kitchen counter before he decided it needed its own little weather system. I get that people want to baby their plants, I do the same thing with my calatheas, but when the gear costs more than the plant and the plant still looks rough, something went wrong. That albo guy is the perfect example too, because if it hasn't leafed since March, the dome is not the answer, the answer is probably more light or less fussing. We all fell into this hobby to watch things grow, not to babysit machines. The plants did fine for a hundred years on windowsills before any of this stuff existed.
