Local plant swaps or garden centers are way more reliable for healthy succulents. You can actually check the roots and soil before buying anything. That's how I finally got some that didn't just fall apart.

That built up toughness makes a huge difference when you bring them home. Big box stores ship plants from far away, so they get shocked by the change. A local plant has already survived your summers and winters. That head start is worth the extra trip.
