That $60 moisture meter saved my peace lily collection
I bought a cheap moisture meter off Amazon last month because my peace lilies kept getting yellow leaves no matter what I did. I was either drowning them or letting them get bone dry. The meter was like $12 and it showed me the soil was wet six inches down even when the top felt dry. Turns out I was overwatering by a lot. Now I only water when the meter says the bottom half is dry. Has anyone else used one of these things for fussy indoor plants?

My $12 meter basically became my plant's therapist, telling me "you're drowning her again" every single time I picked up the watering can. At least now my peace lily forgives me enough to grow new leaves instead of plotting my demise.

I actually saw a video from a plant nursery owner on YouTube who said those cheap meters can save a lot of beginner plants. She mentioned peace lilies specifically because they droop dramatically when thirsty but then look fine when overwatered. I have two peace lilies myself and I got a similar $10 meter last month after killing three of them in a row. The meter showed my soil was soaked at the bottom even when the top inch was dry. Now I stick it in all the way down and check the color guide before I water. My biggest lily has put out three new leaves since I started using it.
