Brain implant latency numbers made me double check my own math

I was reading a paper about motor cortex decoding last night and saw their system hit 80ms round trip for cursor control. That's faster than my own reaction time to a slap on the shoulder. The scary part is they got there with just 256 channels, I always thought you needed thousands. Looked up the source lab's demo video on YouTube and you can see the patient moving the mouse smooth as butter. Has anyone else compared their own typing or mouse lag to what these chips can do now?

Wait, we're out here getting excited about an 80ms round trip like it's some kind of miracle? My grandma's wireless mouse has worse ping than that and she uses it to play solitaire. But yeah, the 256 channels thing is the wild part. I've seen demos where the patient basically thinks about moving the cursor and it just goes, meanwhile my Bluetooth keyboard drops letters if I type too fast. Kinda makes you wonder if we should be putting chips in everyone's heads just to fix their Wi-Fi lag.

It's wild how fast our own brains have to work just to keep up with a mouse.
