Got told my BCI calibration was 'too clean' - now I'm not sure what to think
So last week a guy from a lab over at University of Michigan watched me calibrate my EEG headset and he said my data was too smooth, like I was filtering out useful noise. He claimed those little blips in the raw signal actually carry movement intention info that I was killing with aggressive smoothing. I switched to a lighter filter and now my cursor control is jittery but somehow more accurate? But I also miss the clean signal for spelling. What do you folks do - clean up the data or leave it a little messy for better control?

I mean, I've been there for sure. When I was trying to figure out my own career shift a couple years back, what really helped was just breaking down the options into smaller steps instead of looking at the whole big picture. I started by writing down what I actually liked about my current job and what I hated, which made it way easier to see what mattered most to me. Then I just picked one small thing to change first, like updating my resume or reaching out to one person in a field I was curious about. It didn't solve everything overnight but it made the whole thing feel less scary and more doable.
