Talking to a stroke survivor changed how I see BCI latency
Met this older guy at a rehab center last Tuesday while visiting a friend. He had a stroke 10 years back and lost most of his right side movement. They let him try a research BCI for a trial, just moving a cursor on screen. He told me the 200ms delay felt like an eternity, like his hand was being dragged through mud. I always thought sub-second response was basically instant, but watching him struggle with that wait made me rethink what actually matters. For someone with limited motor options, even half a second of lag can mess with their sense of control. Got me wondering what latency threshold feels natural to people here, is 100ms still noticeable to any of you?
