Am I the only one who switched from a 10-inch trowel to a 12-inch for most walls?
I used to stick with a 10-inch trowel for everything, thinking it was easier to control. That changed about a year ago on a big block job in Phoenix where the foreman insisted we try the bigger size. I was skeptical, but it actually lays more mortar per pass and my speed went up. Now I only grab the 10-inch for tight corners or detailed work. Anyone else make a similar switch and notice a difference?

My buddy in the trade swears by his 12-inch Marshalltown for big walls now. He said the same thing about it being faster once you get used to the feel.

Yeah, @claireg89, I've heard that from a few guys who do commercial work. They say the extra length just gives you more control on those big, flat surfaces.

But is a few inches really that big of a deal?
