Pro tip: I was buttering my bricks wrong for 12 years until a foreman named Jerry pointed it out on a job site in Dayton last July

I was putting too much mud on the face and not enough on the deeper edge so the joints kept sagging after three courses and now I pack every tail end first with a narrow thumb trowel, has anyone else dealt with this trick from an old timer?

Jerry sounds like the kind of guy who’s saved someone from wasting a whole season of work (probably on every job site he’s ever been on). It’s funny how the tiniest tweak in technique makes such a huge difference, isn’t it? Reminds me of how I finally learned to sharpen kitchen knives properly after watching a butcher take ten seconds to do what I’d been messing up for years.

Next thing you know I'll be cutting onions like a pro too.
