Back in college I lived on ramen with a single egg cracked in, now my cheap meal is a whole pot of lentil soup.

I used to think a good budget dinner was just making a 50 cent packet of noodles a bit fancier. That changed about five years ago when I got a slow cooker from a thrift store for $8. Now I buy a bag of dried lentils for $2 and make a huge pot of soup with carrots and onion that feeds me for days. It's way cheaper per bowl and actually fills me up. Anyone else switch from instant stuff to big batch cooking to save cash?

Oh man, this hits home. I was totally in the same boat, living off those cheap noodle packs and calling it a meal. Then my roommate got a slow cooker and everything changed. Making a giant batch of bean chili or soup feels like actual cooking for way less money, and it doesn't leave you hungry an hour later. It's a total game changer for real.

Remember when a full pot of soup felt like a luxury? My slow cooker was the best twenty bucks I ever spent.
