I spent $60 on a meal prep service for one week and figured out I was paying $5 per chicken breast
Last week I finally caved and tried one of those meal kit delivery things because I was working late at the shop and kept grabbing fast food on the way home. The deal looked great upfront, $60 for five dinners for two people, so I figured it was a solid budget move. Turns out after the intro price ends it jumps to like $95 a week, and the portions were small enough that my wife and I were still hungry after. I did the math on what I actually got in the box, and once you break it down per ingredient, I was paying close to $5 for a single chicken breast that costs $2.50 at the grocery store down the street. The recipes were fine but nothing I couldn't have made myself with a quick trip to Aldi on Sunday afternoon. I canceled after the second box and went back to just buying the same five ingredients in bulk and cooking them all at once. If you are thinking about trying one of these services to save money, do the per item math before you sign up, because that intro price is not what you will keep paying. Has anyone found a meal kit that actually stays cheap past the first month, or is it all just a trap?
