Spent 6 months comparing store brand beans to name brand and the difference was way smaller than I thought

I did a little test with black beans from Aldi vs Goya for my weekly burrito bowls. The Aldi ones were $0.89 a can and the Goya were $1.49, so I figured the cheap ones would be watery or mushy. Honestly after draining and rinsing both, I couldn't tell them apart in taste or texture across 3 different meals. Anyone else find that store brand canned goods hold up just as good as the pricier stuff?

Wait, you can just ask the store manager for dented cans at a discount? I always thought they had to toss those or send them back. That's a game changer if true, I've passed up so many dented cans for no reason. Are there any stores that are better about doing that than others?

Yeah I did a similar thing with canned tomatoes and the store brand won for me. The real savings are in dented cans though. Ask your grocery store manager if you can buy those at a discount.
