Spent months buying canned beans until I figured out dried are cheaper and taste way better

I used to grab a few cans of black beans every week at the grocery store. Last month I finally did the math and realized I was paying about $1.50 per can vs $1.50 for a whole pound of dried beans. That pound makes like 6 or 7 cups of cooked beans which is way more than what you get in a can. Plus the texture is firmer and they don't have all that extra salt or preservatives. I just soak them overnight and simmer for an hour or two. Has anyone else made the switch and noticed a difference in your weekly grocery bill?

Oh man, I saw this article about how much sodium is in canned beans vs dried and it blew my mind. That part about "they don't have all that extra salt or preservatives" really hit home. I made the switch a few months ago and my grocery bill dropped noticeably. Plus I can control the texture way better. Soaking overnight and simmering sounds exactly right. I do the same with chickpeas for hummus and it's night and day difference. The only thing I had to get used to was remembering to soak them the night before. Once you get that habit down it's smooth sailing.

Used to think dried beans were just more work for no real payoff, but you laid out the case better than any article I've read. The money saved and better texture are hard to argue with once you actually try it. Sounds like a pain at first but the overnight soak just becomes automatic after a few weeks.
