Guy in a Bangkok hostel told me to skip tourist spots. Best advice I got.

Met this Australian backpacker named Dave at a hostel near Khao San Road who said ditch the temples and go eat street food in the alleys off Sukhumvit Soi 38 instead. I took his advice and spent $12 on the best pad thai and mango sticky rice of my life. Has anyone else gotten a local tip that completely saved your trip budget?

Local food spots always beat the tourist traps for saving cash.

Tourist traps" are overpriced for a reason, they're usually cleaner and safer than dodgy alley food.
