Had a hostel owner tear me a new one over my booking habits

I used to always book hostels last minute through those discount apps to save like $5 a night, but a guy in Prague flat out told me I was costing him money and making his job harder. He explained that walk-ins mess up their cleaning schedule and force them to hold rooms that could've been sold at full price. Now I'm wondering if I should just pay the $3-4 extra to book direct and stop being that guy.

Costing him money and making his job harder" oof that's me in every aspect of my life, not just hostels. I'm the kind of person who shows up late to everything and then wonders why people are annoyed.

That Prague guy had a point though, and @alice242 you might actually be doing the same thing without realizing it. The discount apps take a cut of the booking price, so the hostel gets even less money when you use them compared to booking direct.
