Heard a guy at the hostel say he books flights at 3am

I was in Bangkok last week and this backpacker at my hostel swore he gets the cheapest flights by booking between 2 and 4am local time. He said airlines refresh inventory then or something. Anyone else tried booking in the middle of the night like that and saved money?

Ngl I've scored cheap flights at 2am before. It works sometimes.
