Hostel vs Couchsurfing in Prague - one was way cheaper
I spent a week in Prague last fall and tried both options for three nights each. The hostel cost me about $28 a night and I got a locker and breakfast included. Couchsurfing was free but I had to bring a bottle of wine for my host and take the tram 40 minutes from the center. Honestly the hostel saved me time and hassle even though couchsurfing was zero dollars. Has anyone else found that cheap hostels beat free stays when you factor in travel time?

Totally agree with you on this one, hostels win for practicality. I did couchsurfing in Paris once and spent two hours on the metro each day just to get anywhere fun, plus I felt weird about coming back late and waking my host up. Hostels put you right in the middle of everything and you don't have to worry about being polite all the time. Free stays sound great on paper but your time and convenience matter a lot too, especially on a short trip. Hostel all the way when you factor in the travel hassle.

Free stays sound great on paper" but so does saving hundreds for actual experiences instead of a bed.
