I used to book the first cheap flight I saw to Europe

I'd just grab a $500 round trip to London and figure it out from there. Then I tried a trick: I flew into Dublin for $380, took a $20 Ryanair hop to Berlin, and saved over a hundred bucks on the main flight. Has anyone else found a cheaper hub city that works as a better starting point?

Lisbon's my go-to cheap hub (worked last spring).

Used to think Lisbon was just okay, not that cheap. Then I saw flights to Morocco for like 30 bucks and a decent hostel for 12 a night. Totally changed my view on it as a base.
