I used to think meal kits were a smart way to save money

I was paying $75 a week for one of those box services, thinking it cut my food waste. After tracking my spending for three months, I saw I was spending way more than just buying groceries. Now I plan five meals on Sunday and shop with a strict list. My food bill is under $50 a week. Has anyone else ditched a 'convenience' service and been shocked by the real savings?

Fifteen bucks a plate for pasta? That's actually insane. You could buy a whole box of noodles and a jar of sauce for less than three dollars. The guilt over wilted greens is the worst part. Paying a premium just to throw food away feels like getting scammed twice.

Yeah I saw a whole thread about this on another forum. People were breaking down the cost per meal and it was wild, like fifteen bucks a plate for pasta. The real kicker was someone said they felt guilty not using the kits fast enough, so they were throwing out expensive wilted greens anyway. My friend tried one and the delivery fees kept creeping up every other week. She went back to just getting a rotisserie chicken and some veggies, said it cut her bill in half.

Did your friend say how much the delivery fees got up to before she quit?
