Meal planning hack that saved us $80 this month
My partner and I kept overspending on groceries because we'd buy random stuff and let it rot. Last week I tried something I saw on a mommy blog: I planned every dinner around what protein was on sale and built the rest around pantry staples. We ended up spending $80 less than our usual budget and threw away almost zero food. Has anyone else tried a similar approach or found a different system that works?

Planned every dinner around what protein was on sale" - we do this but then buy fancy cheese as a treat, kinda defeats the purpose.

That $9 block of aged cheddar at the store used to seem like a small splurge to me too, until I actually added up the total for the week. After reading @knight.diana's post it finally clicked that if I'm stretching the budget on protein, the cheese just eats up all the savings anyway. I've started just buying a cheaper block and saving the fancy stuff for once a month now.
