My sister told me my savings goal was 'cute' and it still bugs me

Last month at my mom's place, my sister saw my budget spreadsheet on my phone and laughed. She said, 'You are saving for a house down payment? That is cute.' Cute, like it was a hobby, like I was collecting stamps. I have been putting away $300 every two weeks for 18 months now, skipping takeout and driving my old car into the ground. She makes good money but spends every cent on trips and designer bags, then complains about rent. I did not say anything back because I froze, but it stuck with me. Has anyone else had a family member act like your budget is a joke, and how do you deal with that without starting a fight?

Starts with the little digs, doesn't it... Like people who blow their whole paycheck on stuff see your spreadsheet as a personal insult to their choices. My cousin does the same thing to me about my meal prep, calls it "sad" while she spends $15 on lunch every day. But here's the thing, people get weird when you're doing something they secretly know they should do too. That "cute" comment says way more about her feeling stuck than about your savings plan. Keep doing what you're doing, that down payment is going to feel a whole lot better than her next handbag.
